Want to follow the action live when the German 49er crews, the 49erFX sailors and the Nacra 17 mixed teams compete for medals at the World Championships in the USA next Tuesday and when the women and catamaran sailors also compete for Olympic tickets? No longer a problem in 2016! A German team with international support will be broadcasting the races live from Clearwater during the exciting three-day final phase of the world championships.

The World Championships begin on 9 February. The races will be broadcast on the final three days of the regatta, from 12 to 14 February, when the gold fleet in the main field and the medal races will be competing for titles, precious metals and, for the 49erFX sailors and the mixed catamaran teams, Rio tickets. For both the 49erFX crews and the Nacra 17 teams, the World Championship marks part two of their three-part elimination programme. This sailing treat is made possible by SAP, one of the main partners of the national sailing team Audi Sailing Team Germany. From the west coast of Florida, the television team will serve up flash tables, 2D and 3D animations as well as on-board and aerial images captured by drones. Fans can also look forward to a team of commentators and experts in the World Championship studio.

Shortly before the start of the World Championships, six new mounts for the mobile phone cameras, which are attached to the trees of the 49er and 49er FX skiffs for the transmissions, were created in the new Kiel Fablab in the Science Park. Until now, this has been done with the help of simple adhesive tape. From now on, the new mounts developed in the Kiel Fablab, which are already on their way to Clearwater with the transmission team, will ensure even greater reliability.

The World Championships for high-performance dinghies and the new Olympic discipline Nacra 17 marks the start of a series of broadcasts with which the SAP team wants to bring sailing into people's living rooms in the Olympic year. "We have set ourselves the goal of continuing to improve our performance from event to event," explains Marcus Baur, Technology Project Manager at Sailing Team Germany. The extensive reporting is made possible by the Sailing Analytics developed for sailing, combined with intelligent transmission technologies for cameras and data.

Sailing is like a constantly refreshing declaration of love for life."
